The David Lukas Show

Don't you love a farce,
My fault I fear,
I thought that you'd want what I want
Sorry my dear!
But where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Quick send in the clowns.

Scripture Discussed in today’s show: Romans 15:18-20

The infinite wisdom of the apostle Paul…

18 I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— 19 by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. 20 It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.

"Our personalities are made up of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual components. They're molded and colored and given intricacies by our upbringing, our experiences, our fears, our passions, and our observations of the world. What I am calling your “Financial Personality” is just one aspect of who you are."

– Tony Walker, author & creator of  The 3 Personalities of Money®

On this installment of the David Lukas Show, David first addresses the three types of financial personalities and how important it is to know what yours is and why. David also explains how your personality influences how you feel and deal with your money.

So what, specifically, are The 3 Personalities Of Money® you ask?

  • Speculator- A speculator is a trader who approaches the financial markets intending to make a money by buying low and selling high (or higher), not necessarily in that order. The speculator is distinguished from the investor, who approaches the financial markets with the intention of making a return on his capital.
  • Investor- An investor allocates capital expecting a positive future financial return. Investors approach the financial markets with the expectations of making a return on his capital.
  • Saver- a person who regularly saves money through a recognized scheme. They’re interested in an object, action, or process that prevents their financial resources from being used up or expended.

Do you know what your financial personality is? If you’re a saver, you’ve got to understand your personality before you can appropriately make decisions concerning your retirement. Not sure where you stand? Take the test NOW.

Biblical theme of today’s show: With faith in God, the future is bright.

Ecclesiastes (NIV) 8:7, Since no one knows the future, who can tell someone else what is to come?

Luke (NIV) 17:24, For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other.

When The Market is dipping and diving week on end, it’s hard to just sit back and “hang in there.” Especially when we’ve all been pigeonholed into being an investor or a speculator.

Unfortunately for Wall Street, we’re not all Investors and Speculators. In fact, many of us are Savers looking to safeguard our retirement funds—not gamble them away or put them into something that is unpredictable or uncertain.

This week on the DL Show, David talks about how annuities should work for and benefit Savers. Also, David discusses the steps that Savers can take to buy annuities safely.

Key Items discussed:

  • Beware the unscrupulous salesman
  • The security Fixed Indexed Annuities provides

Scripture of the Day: Bible Verse(s) discussed (NIV): Proverbs 8-11

What the bible has to say about wisdom: Instruction is key in gaining knowledge and later attaining wisdom.

Are you struggling just to understand things? Are you confused and acting on impulse when people are trying to sell you things? If you find yourself stuck in these situations or decisions, look to God.

With so many “professional” opinions out there, concerning finance, sometimes it’s hard to differentiate between valuable information and propaganda.

And before HUGE decisions are made there are many important factors to consider—whether you’re planning on taking a lump sum payout, a monthly income, or a roll-over in relation to your pension. This week, on the DL Show, our host David explains what future retirees need to know about their pensions, if they have one, before retiring. Topics discussed in today’s show:

  • Defined Benefit Plan. This plan, otherwise known as the pension, is guaranteed by the employer for the policyholder to receive a definite amount of money at retirement. Guaranteed.
  • Defined Contribution Plan. This plan, otherwise known as the 401k, is a money match or percentage contribution to a profit sharing pool where you, the employee, takes all the risk. The final amount of money received depends on how the investment performs in the stock market. Unguaranteed.
  • The Tax Tumor. The tax tumor is what’s owed in the future when cashing in on your 401k. (Insider info: nobody knows what the tax percentage will be in the future. But one thing’s for sure. It will be higher.)

David also addresses a listener's question:

I put 10% into my 401k plan. The company matches 6% and I was wondering...Is it advisable to keep putting that much in my 401k plan or should I think about something else with my money?

To hear the insight David has to give, listen to the entire show today! Do you have pension, 401k, or retirement questions? If so, call or write in to David Lukas Financial, and possibly get your question(s) answered on the air!

Bible related theme discussed today: Contentment — to be satisfied. How do we remain satisfied and content in life? By remembering that God gives us the good and the bad. Without the bad, we can never fully appreciate the good.
